I was at a film showing a couple years ago at Facets, and in the Q&A afterwards someone asked where to find acting talent for a no-budget film. There was this real "authentic" looking struggling actor guy there that said "Chicago is an awesome place to find acting talent. You should have no problems finding real stage actor talent that will act in a short film for free just to get the experience and the line item on their resume." He mentioned some trade paper you could advertise in.
Has anyone ever tried that?
Also, I recently saw a movie that featured a "stage" actress in her first starring role, and the whole time I had the feeling she was acting like she was in a play instead of a movie. I think it was because she "projected" so much. I've heard they teach stage people to be "big" in their movements and gestures so people in the back row can see, but she seemed to be carrying that over into the movie.
Any thoughts on hiring stage actors to be in a movie?
